Mr. V (janitor) said air conditioning was being worked on this morning. Patron suggested signage in the library about locations of public restrooms. Printer still not working on main computer. The public service blog said Dan from school ITS had been in on Monday to replace mice and network cable. It also said he worked on the printer. Side computer prints fine, so I have been using it for all transactions. Printing traffic report will be a problem, since the reports are now on the computer which does not print. Very quiet morning. One patron used computer and printed job apps. Only three checkouts so far and one newspaper reader. A door card was brought in by the janitor. He thinks a teacher dropped it in the parking lot. It is in the lost and found drawer.

Gave a teacher with the North summer program a bunch of Library Card Registration forms. I had to print out more. It has been deadly slow.
Wes came in to fix several issues, including one involving patron cards. I’ll post what the fix is on the discussion board, so if you feel comfortable, you can fix it. It can only be done when there aren’t any patrons logged in. Wes also fixed the printer issue on the main PC – hopefully it will stay fixed.
I had some people turn in/check out materials and use the computers, but it has been a slow day in general.
Host 7 doesn’t have Access. I put in a ticket to have the school IT install it. Greta stopped by, and we decided to put in a RCPL custodial request to pass along information regarding the recycling bin. We couldn’t find a comparable form for the GB custodians. Does anyone know where there is one?
I will ask Jean-Claire, the community center supervisor, if there is a form. I think there has been a paper one for school staff to use but I am not sure if there is anything online at this time. Both she and Tim are out this week, but under normal circumstances you can e-mail them if you need something from the custodians. In the case of the overflowing recycling bin or other immediate needs, I would suggest just using the intercom in the library. When they answer the call, just ask whoever is working if they could empty it.
I will also ask Jean-Claire for specific details about the maintance staff hours this summer so we have a clear idea of when someone is available in the building.
06-20-09 Susan B.
Jean-Claire’s email is Jean-Claire.Hamblin@k12.sd.us and Tim’s is Tim.Nighbert@k12.sd.us. Jean’s hours at the school will vary throughout the summer but she does check her e-mail. Her office is located just past the business office on the that same side.

Problem with ‘Printer Spooler’. No printer capability on staff machine. Tried putting in a Network Services Work Order and that was not working. Did ‘Hold Report’ but was unable to print it, pulled items anyway. There is a printer spooler fix in the procedures – did you try that? -tjs 6-24-09

Computer:
All the patron computers turned off at 9.25am. The custodian Mr.V said that it had nothing to do with the fans being on. I will submit a NS ticket.
A patron logged in and got the message that the card was already in use somewhere else. He said that he has gotten that message before. I will submit an NS ticket.
NS ticket:
I cannot access the Form and will submit the tickets this afternoon from downtown.
Traffic Report:
I generated yesterday’s traffic report on the front computer and it worked.
Patrons:
Some patrons at the computers (adults and teens), one reading the paper, some checking out items and picking up holds.
Sharepoint Access:
The shortcut on the desktop opens up in Firefox. You have to go through the Internet Explorer shortcut on the desktop and then the Favorites box. I changed the Closing Procedure to reflect the Thursday night change.
Air Conditioning:
It is still not working. Mr. V (Vernell) was in to check on us and he assured me that someone from the energy plant will come by today or in the next few days to repair it. Meanwhile, I opened the front door and the side doors with the fans in front of them so we get some air in here.
Weeding YA:
I did the weeding in the YA fiction DVD area and in the YA Fiction book area A thru E.

Nancy(morning) Rhonda(afternoon)
Posted by gbrcpl on June 17, 2009
Lots of activity in the library this morning because of storytime with Jo. Fairly quiet after clean-up was done and 85 people had left. NL Jo had 85 people at storytime. Please be expecting a crowd in the AM on Wednesdays in the summer.
Afternoon with Rhonda, very quiet.
Jennifer M came up and got the cash register straight. (Heidi the money was in the tote to come up to north).
Jennifer also informed me that every Monday from now on she will be coming to the north branch to count and fill the copier coin-op, so we can take that off of our list of things to do on Thur. I made note of this change in the “North Notebook” on the desk top. I was unable to change the document in sharepoint, it had a read only status. Was the read-only status due to opening it in Foxfire? If you open it in Explorer, you will be prompted for a read only or an edit copy. Choose edit. That should allow you to make changes. Just save as you normally do. slb I fixed the sharepoint procedure to match the one on the desktop. – tjs 6-24-09
Wes was here and put the Trafsys Report on the front desk computer. We ran the report from the back room today. So tomorrow who every is here in the afternoon will need to test it after 3pm and let Wes know if it worked or not!! He did disable the soft ware on the old machine in the back room.
Air Conditioning. It got so hot in here this afternoon, I got the custodial staff to help me set the Large Fans in the two side door ways. She said at that time that they had reported the problem to Tim the head custodian and was waiting for a response. Later the person in the schools office called and asked about the air and said she would call the energy plant because the head custodial staff, Tim, was out of town this week. Later I stopped in the office and asked if she had any news. When talking with the energy plant they found that a fan was out on their end and no wonder we have no air here. They are working on it and hope to get it running today.
When we have no air in this library we should contact the custodial staff first to see if they can get it on from this building and if that does not work she did leave me the energy plant phone number. I have attached it to the flip chart. – please note that the contact information for the HVAC at North is in the emergency contacts list, on the update tha tis dated June 9; therefore, it doesn’t need to be tracked separately - if the North emergency contact list isn’t the current update, please check with Jen M to get a copy there. – td Thank you for getting to the bottom of this. We need to keep in contact with the office staff or custodial staff to ensure this fan gets replaced. slb

(Jean) There are now 4 computers that have no mice balls so those are off, but the rest of the computers are working fine. When first turned on the catalog computers appeared to not connect to the Internet. However, after 9 am they would connect just fine, so maybe there is a time constraint attached to them.
I couldn’t get into bridgeaccess to send a trouble ticket for the Samsung printer issue so I have emailed Stephanie a screenshot of the SQLDumper error (which is probably the reason the printer isn’t working) and also the following list of issues:
-
Bridgeaccess not available on either staff computer: I wonder if the bridgeaccess issue is related to IP addresses. It appears that the link includes an IP address and maybe the school IP address isn’t included in the link. At any rate, neither staff computer would go to bridgeaccess through the sharepoint link. I put in a Bridge Tracker request for RCPL-N.
-
The corner 30 min computers and IE link. The 30 min by the door links to http://intranet.rcas.org/Pages/Default.aspx. The 30 min in the corner by the walls links to http://www.rcas.org/Pages/Default.aspx which goes nowhere, so by backspacing to www.rcas.org you can get on IE.Please place request to school’s IT help desk to get this fixed. Our 30 minute computers should go to the library’s website, not the school’s.
-
The staff computer at the north end of the desk: 1. Printers and Faxes in the control panel does not respond after Aleph has been opened (or after anything has been opened) 2. Aleph froze when I tried to print a receipt, 3. When I turned on the computer the Samsung spewed out several receipts from the previous day, 4. It appears the SQLDumper isn’t dumping (see screenshot in separate email)
-
The staff computer at the south end of the desk does not have messenger on it. Can we install? Please put in Bridge Tracker request for this. Can place request at the downtown location.
-
When you get the message, “One or more incompatible module (s) in that NCX-2000-XP system has been detected. The additional station (s) may not start or work correctly.” Please just X out of the dialog box, don’t try to install.
Other than the above everything was fine. Just a few patrons. One called ahead to see if we were open during the day yet. Signage hasn’t been changed to reflect our summer hours.
Signage has been changed to reflect the summer library hours including the sign in the locked glass case outside the library. Susan 6-17-09
Dave, from RCAS, just walked in and will try to fix the SQLDumper issue. He brought over 4 mice, which I put on the computers. He also mentioned that all the computers will need to be updated this summer.
Can you ask if there are certain dates when they will be updated so we know how this will affect the use of the computers? Susan 6-17-09
(Marti) Julie was in for a bit – just in time to show me how to help a little girl pay for a lost Beadle book. When you mark a Beadle book as lost (and you can look up students by their names, since they don’t carry cards), it tells you how much the book is – that’s the fine that is assessed. Julie took the money, but I don’t know where we would put it otherwise. Maybe just on her desk?
Had some people in to use the computers as well as check out materials. I issued a new card.
Heide
I ran the Trafsys and the Holds Report. 10 computer users when I got here. Jo could not hold family story time in the back area she usually uses because there was furniture in the space. She held it in the table area here.
Added two of our patrons to the Beadle patron list.
Lots of people at story time.

The air conditioning seemed to be off when I got in today, so I spoke to a custodian and he said he would contact the people about it. In the mean time he set up two big air movers, which we are supposed to turn off at the end of the day.
I gave the broken building access card to the office today (keeping the keys to take back downtown). Tim has to fix it and he will be back next week.
The computer that we use most of the time is having printer issues. I cannot get the printer and fax info to open from the start menu to see if there is something I can try to fix. I tried to put in a service ticket about it and the ticket page will not open. Evidently the sharepoint link is not functioning. Thanks, Amylee. When problems are reported in a posting, please read them and report if the problem is still there, has been corrected, has been reported to the school’s or the city’s IT department or anything new about the problem. Jean on Tuesday morning is still having the same trouble, and she is submitting a Bridge Access ticket to get this fixed. She also reported that the catalog computers were working at 9 a.m., but still no new mice. We need to work as a team to stay on top of these issues, get them resolved and not just let them go. Reporting progress or no progress in the postings helps with this. Thanks, Stephanie.
The internet explorer link on the 30 minute computer in the corner is set with www.rcas.org as the home page and does not want to open correctly all the time. Could not put in a ticket about it, see above.
I went through the adult non-fiction checking for materials that need to go back downtown. I found a few and put them in the tote to go back, and put the rest with the items Rhonda found (she took back the ones that would fit in her tote). Just an FYI on shelving, there are a few books in the jnf area that belong to the school, they look like they should go in the adult collection but they don’t.
Evening-Maryanne
A few people were using the computer, one checkout and a couple of questions. Shelved materials. One patron has the “Your account is in use message”. We waited and hte messages came the the account had been corrected, but he still could not get in.

People in to use the computers right away when I opened. I cleaned up the patron problem shelf, only 3 items so didn’t take very long.
The main computer we use on the circ desk seems to be having issues printing. Aleph would shut down after I tried to print a receipt (items did get checked out to the patrons). Word would also shut down after trying to print something. I sent an email to the help desk (cc to Sean per his request) about this problem. The south computer was printing fine so could give patrons a receipt from there.- TM- thanks fo submitting this request, it would be a good idea to cc: “libones” so the librarian 1s can make sure we are also tracking the tickets that get submitted from GB-ms
Cleaned up kinderloft books. Rearranged tables for storytime and craft in the library on Wednesday am. Please keep furniture arrangement unless you have to move it. Steady patron traffic. Main computer unoperable due to printer problems as Toni reported above.-JB Good to hear that our patrons are taking advantage of our new summer hours. Hope we get a good turnout for Wednesday’s storytime. Please talk it up if you see people coming in with kids. slb
